Journal Entry I "The insects have pushed our forces back a great deal, but the commander forces us onward. The ground is littered with the bodies of friend and foe alike and I awake each day to thank the gods that I have not joined my fellows in the afterlife. A smith in our employ has taken a strong interest in the chitinous material of the insectoids and appears to be studying it with great interest. You wouldn't catch me wearing the husk of these beasts but perhaps there's merit to his research. Time will tell."
Journal Entry II "We beat back another invasion force this morning. This time some of their forces were less bestial and almost more human if you can believe that. One of them dropped a splendid blade that seemed to spark our smith's interest, he has already set to work to make something similar. We're hopeful that our journey will come to an end soon. The hive is said to be but two days journey from here."
Journal Entry III "My nights are filled with the sound of buzzing, of chittering. I awake in a cold sweat, seeking foes that do not exist. Others have reported similar nightmares to the camp clerics. Are we fatigued from the wounds of war or is something else at play here? Hopefully I can rest this night without that scratching sound playing at the edge of my thoughts."

He ran about the camp waving his blade, screaming nonsense. His eyes had turned a violet hue and his skin pulsated. Upon closer inspection, small worms crawled away from his corpse. Journal Entry V "We saw it today, at last. The hive we have come to destroy is now within sight. We camped outside it this night and have doubled the number of guards. The entryway seemed unguarded. Perhaps the creatures think us dead? Ridiculous, they're mindless creatures without-" The ink begins to run on this page and scrawled hastily near the bottom in large, harsh writing it reads, "WE KNOW."
Journal Entry VI You flip through the journal and find some fresh writing a few pages in, "A few of us fell ill the morning of the exploration force. We were to set out and a dozen of us simply blacked out. In my darkness I could sense something, something far yet close. I can hear a voice now at the edge of my mind where once there was ceaseless chittering. I can begin to understand the messages. I dare not share this with my companions, they would likely think me empty of sense."
Journal Entry VII "We entered the hive today. It runs deep and humid. Breathing is labored down here but so far we've encountered only light resistance. A few of us seem to almost know the way as if we've been here before. The voice came to me again as we entered, it bid me follow but I waved such thoughts from my mind. Our mission is almost complete, though I can recall not what that mission was anymore."
Journal Entry VIII "We found it, the heart of the hive. Inside a massive creature labored over young and squirmed as we approached. The fighting was fierce and only a dozen of us remain. We talked amongst ourselves and decided to examine the beast further before slaying her. Perhaps this is where the voices came from?"
Journal Entry IX "It was foolish to think we were above these creatures; in truth they are above us! The creature has promised us a new path if we but dare to tread it. I took up the sword it offered and could feel power the likes of which I have never felt before! I am becoming something new, something better."
