Lore
Once considered an exotic weapon from distant lands, the Mountainbraid clan saw tremendous potential in the hooksword as both a weapon of war and labor. Its sharp, curved tips are equally adept at scaling both steep mountainsides and stout giant shins. |
Originally invented by miners to provide limitless access to rare metals deep within the earth, it was later weaponized by the Mountainbraid clan shortly after a family of hill giants took up residence near their family iron mine. |
While the Mountainbraid clan is best known for their mining operations their blood still runs hot with a stout dwarven love of hot embers in a forge and the rush of battle. Their miners are equipped for all situations, be it cave-in or cave troll. |
A rival, gnomish mining company once attempted to discredit the Mountainbraid clan by spreading rumors that their safety ropes were braided using dwarven beards as opposed to traditional materials, and that such a thing was not only unsafe but rather unhygienic.
The Mountainbraids, not to be one upped by some meddling gnomes, responded by creating safety ropes from the scraps of hundreds of dwarven beards and ascended one of the tallest mountain peaks in the region using only their beard rope and a stout pickaxe. The venture was successful, bringing a great deal of fame and fortune to the Mountainbraid clan. The gnomes were shamed out of business for their lies and deceit and merchants now hail from all over the land seeking Dwarven Beard Rope. None has been sold or confirmed to be in use outside of this one event, though imitation beard rope can be found on black markets across Tor'gyyl. |
Initially spikes were added to help miners slow their descent should they slip while extracting rich minerals beneath the earth. However, they quickly discovered these spikes provided adequate retaliation against giants seeking to crush them as well. |
Exceptional time and skill has gone into the creation of these pants. Not only must they provide excellent protection against both the elements and would-be-attackers, they also need to maintain a certain level of comfort.
Non-chafing chainmail is truly a marvel for the modern age. |
Fashionable and certainly up to the task of deflecting blades and sharp edges, these boots are very ineffective at preventing crushed toes. |
A symbol worn with a great deal of pride and respected across mining and giant hunting communities everywhere. |
Native to the same mountains the Mountainbraid clan calls home, it’s no surprise they've spent generations taming these majestic beasts. They're quite effective against giants and the bird's natural hatred for the lumbering behemoths works to the dwarves' advantage. |
