|Statues tend to have an easy existence, though they usually lack the sentience to appreciate this. Mabrunesh's was particularly pleasant. He stood in a temple, while worshippers showered him with prayers, entreaties, and offerings of food and drink. Since he was a marble sculpture, he had no need of nourishment -- but it was still a nice gesture, and the priests seemed to enjoy feasting on everything once the temple closed for the night. Life was good. Until the day he learned that these people weren't worshipping him -- they were praying to a god in whose image he had been fashioned. This was a tremendous blow to his ego, and made him question his very existence. Thus after some days of introspection, he jumped down off his plinth and stormed out of the temple, accompanied by the lesser statues which had adorned the place.|
