Lore
I. The castle stood there, taunting the besiegers with its mere presence. They looked on in frustration as its stalwart bricks lay unblemished despite the besieger's best efforts. But while the generals and tacticians grimaced, Malory's smile widened. |
II. Siegecraft was a passion for Malory, though it had grown mundane in recent months as her tactics continued to exceed expectations, reducing once proud fortifications to rubble with minimal effort. But before her she was the first true challenge in many seasons. |
III. The air grew thick with smoke as she set her plans to motion. Large bombs bombarded the fortress from multiple angles, their explosions echoing across the battlefield. When the smoke cleared, generals looked on in awe as the keep remained intact yet again with barely a scratch. Malory's lips curled back in a wicked grin and set to work on planning the next attempt. |
IV. This time she employed specialized troops that wielded marvelous rockets with deadly effect. A special style she picked up during her visits to the Festival of Drifting dreams. Her soldiers advanced carefully, pelting the castle with hand held bombs followed by explosive javelins. Volley after volley continued, but still the keep stood. |
V. Undeterred by the obstinance of the fortress, Malory continued to bombard it with an assortment of explosive devices and trinkets. Though splinters flew and bricks finally gave way here and there, the mighty structure defied her. She was laughing now, her joy unable to be contained by the prospect of such an overwhelming task. |
VI. She considered her next actions carefully. It was time to unleash the full might of what her forces had to offer. She gave the command and row after row of massive canvased carts began to be rolled out onto the battlefield. Her generals exchanged glances, wondering what could lay hidden beneath the canvas. |
VII. After allowing the anticipation to build among both her enemies and allies, she pulled the canvas free to reveal massive kegs attached to a base with wheels. She ran her hands along the wooden cask and smiled wickedly. Behind her, massive elephants came onto the battlefield, their trumpets sending shivers down the spines of friend and foe alike. |
VIII. She held her arm high and brought it down in one swift motion, and just like that the earth began to rumble with the announcement of her siegecraft. The kegs rolled onward towards their destination, fuses lit. A few had wheels break on the descent and lay far from their desired location, ready to explode where they would do little damage. Enough made it to the fortress as expected, filling the air with debris upon their explosive arrival. |
X. The elephants charged into the smoke, filling the air with the cacophony of trumpets, explosions and the smell of gun powder. After a time, the smoke began to clear and Malory's heart sank. Her generals clapped her upon the back, hooting and celebrating the great victory before them as the fortress lay demolished, mere rubble before Malory's might. But she simply sighed. Another challenge conquered with resources to spare. One day she hoped to face a true challenge, perhaps her final one. |
IX. Her forces followed shortly thereafter, hurling explosive javelins and hand held bombs alike once again. Arrows and traditional siegecraft followed once more, besieging the fortress from base to tower. Smoke obstructed the battlefield in a thick, powdery haze but Malory wasn't finished. She let loose a mighty trumpet from her war horn and the elephants lumbered forward, tusks alight with bombs close at hand. |

Malory's followers are nearly as crazed as she is about siegecraft. The hazard pay doesn't hurt their recruitment efforts either. |
Wherever a fortress darkens the horizon, Malory and her marauders will be there to remove its unseemly presence from Tor'gyyl. |
