|19. Astria fired a round from her crossbow in the direction she thought the Dream Eater had been. But the arrow sailed into the distance, disappearing in the dark mist. Then an invisible force rammed itself onto the wolf she rode and sent her and her mount hurtling in different directions.
She hit a nearby tree, then slid to the ground. Astria tried to regain equilibrium as the world spun around her, but the mist surrounding her body tightened into a fist-shaped cocoon. The Dream Eater had her in its grasp, and recognized her as a dreamwalker, as well as something more. She was something sinister, something of dark origin, as a demonic element resonated from her. It was that same energy that the Dream Eater needed to consume so that the parasitic nightmare that infected it could become a reality in the waking realm.
|20. A powerful flame blasted through the area that immolated the thick miasma surrounding Astria. There was a screech of pain emitted from the Dream Eater, as another relentless cone of fire shot out and burned the corrupted entity. Gyzix, now taking the form of the blue dragon Solus, belted out another stream of draconic flame, which seared the Dream Eater's flesh, until its frame was charred in a cinder glow, marking its presence.
It was a massive worm, or a dragon, or a tentacle beast, or a demon with ferocious wings, or a ball of teeth and eyes and tongues. It was a chaos of images with no absolute form, tainted by the nightmare of the slumbering beast he sensed in his own dreams.
|21. Gyzix lunged forward with his dragon form, feeling the power and potential in the body of a magnificent creature, and bit down hard around the misty shell that wrapped around Astria. Then with a mighty heave of his wings, Gyzix pulled the cocoon from the Dream Eater, ripping off an ethereal joint. A stream of miasma spewed out from the opening as the Dream Eater wailed in a chorus of undulating tones, like the voices of many people dying together.
Gyzix glided a few yards away and dropped the cocoon on the ground. He saw a spear jut out from the surface of the ethereal covering, slicing across the surface. After the cut was made, Astria emerged from the shell's opening, wearing a suit of brilliant armor that held the strength of dragons.
|22. "Let's end this," declared Astria as she threw her chakram at the Dream Eater.
The lethal weapon spiraled in the air in concentric arcs, slashing away at the corrupted beast. She ran forward with her spear ready, and jammed it through the side of its body. In response, the Dream Eater swiped an ethereal claw towards her, but Gyzix spewed out another bout of flame. It receded its fist, as Astria launched a flurry of blows with her spear.
|23. A ghost flagella spiraled towards Astria and threatened to grapple her in a vice. But with a swing of her weapon, the ethereal tentacle was dismembered, as it squirmed through the air. The Dream Eater formed a massive dragon wing with its incorporeal nightmare body and intended to swat her away.
Instead, with the hook on her spear, Astria wedged it onto the wing of the creature and began climbing its shapeless dream body. No matter how many times the Dream Eater tried to dislodge her, it only served to dig her weapon deeper into its flesh.
|24. Meanwhile, Gyzix had continued to belt out an endless stream of flame attacks. First the Dream Eater's beak tried to snatch at him, then giant demon claw, then a spiked tail. The corrupted entity kept shifting into different forms to try and stop Gyzix, but flying was his advantage, granting him swiftness and maneuverability to easily dodge the attacks. He pressed on, torturing the Dream Eater in a shower of fire.|
|25. Eventually, Astria had climbed on top of the creature, as its massive, grotesque body began to swell and grow, taking the combined shape of a fetus and a gastropod with a multitude of jutting eyes that writhed and wiggled. She raised her spear into the air, and with a battle cry she lodged her weapon deep into the creature's body. She twisted once, then a second time, and pulled down on the spear which made the massive body of the Dream Eater lurch back.
And on the bottom of its incorporeal body sat a massive, dark gem that pulsed like a heartbeat.
"Gyzix!" Astria called out, skewering her weapon deeper into the creature. "Kill it with your light!"
|26. Gyzix flew back with a final gust of his dragon wings and landed on the ground, transforming back to his Twilight form. It felt good to be in control again, to return to his earthen body that held the power of light inside him. And with a grand motion, a glorious beam of energy shot out from his chest, lancing through the mist, and striking the gem at its center. The light ripped through the hard surface, through the Dream Eater, and exploded out the other end of its body.
The light kept traveling, further and further, ever consuming, expanding and purifying, until the entire dream realm had been cleansed of the nightmare.
|27. Gyzix never realized how the light within him could be amplified in the dream realm. It was enough to blind him for a moment, giving his surroundings an indistinct presence. But when he regained visual focus, he was now in a rolling field of grass and sunflowers. In the distance stood a little girl dressed in white, smiling at the oroc.
"Hello Gyzix, it's good to finally meet you," greeted Astria with an amicable smile. "Thanks to you, the dream realm has been cleansed of the nightmare, and your people are free."
She giggled, seeing the boggled expression on the oroc's face. He struggled a moment to form his words.
"You're a child?" asked Gyzix with a raised brow. "You said you are who you should be at a given moment."
