Bogstench is the fourth boss encounter for Vornstaag (Area: Castle Vornstaag). As with all bosses, Bogstench can also be battled in a raid with 4 available levels: Normal, Hard, Legendary and Nightmare.

Enter battle:

You skip over the chandelier and the broken bodies beneath it, leaving your men to finish the groaning survivors, and retrieve your weapon. Then you move through the broken door, and find yourself in what must be the baron’s library. Tall bookcases line the walls from floor to ceiling, filled with leather-bound tomes. The floor is rather less exquisitely decorated… It’s littered with torn up bits of zombie. An indescribable stench fills the chamber.

A gargantuan beast stands before you, the last of the baron’s zombie guards gripped in its big, gnarled hands. As you look on, it tears the undead creature in half, flinging its lower body behind it. You duck to avoid the flailing legs. The zombie’s arms thrash, its fists beating against the creature’s green flesh. Then it clamps its jaws on the zombie’s head, and there’s a sickening crunch as the skull gives way. Then the zombie is still, and the troll hurls it aside.

A man stands at the far end of the library, a trembling rapier in his hand.

“Father!” screams Cassandra.

Baron Melanthius looks at his daughter, anguish in his face.

“Get her away from here!” he cries.

The girl steps forward, as if intending to hurl herself at the monster. But Marcus grabs her by her arm, and passes her back to a couple of the troops – who hustle her from the room, in spite of her yells of protest.

The creature has turned to face you now. It gives a mighty roar, which turns into a disgusting belch that makes its stomach quiver like a disturbed ocean. The smell which bursts forth is almost overpowering. Medea’s harp issues something which sounds like the musical equivalent of a groan as it washes over her.

“Lucian!” you yell over your shoulder, fighting the urge to vomit.

“Yes?” the scholar replies, from the midst of your companions.

“What is that thing?”

“It’s a troll,” he says. “Chop it up, burn the bits.”

“Like the Hydra?”

“Yes,” he replies. “I suppose nature only had so many tricks up its sleeve.”


Piece after piece of rancid, stinking troll flesh is thrown into the library's blazing fire. The smell it produces makes a latrine seem like perfume in comparison. But the devouring flames do their work, and the body parts are consumed - their regenerative abilities overcome.

Cassandra pushes her way through the crowd, and runs to her father. She leaps into his embrace, and wraps her arms around his neck.

"Thank you," the baron says, barely managing to get the words out past her tight grip. He sets the girl down. "I thought I was going to end up like my zombies. Is the town safe?"'

"We've killed all the creatures," you reply. "It was-"

You break off, as you catch something out of the corner of your eye. You move to the window, and gaze out into the distance. Through the rain and dimness you see a green glow, like the one which surrounded the necromancer in the cemetery.

"I don't think we're quite finished here," you say, gesturing towards the glow.

The others join you at the window, and gaze out towards it.

"Those monsters don't have necromancers among their number, do they?" asks Baron Melanthius, after a moment of unsettling silence.

"Yes," comes a chorus from dozens of throats, accompanied by Medea's harp.

"Then we should hurry," he says.
